Parents, especially moms: If you are feeling depressed, you are not alone. For your children’s sake, it is important to address depression head-on. Certainly not the easiest thing to do, but critical to your child’s well-being. The stigma surrounding post-partum and other forms of parental depression is much reduced from just a decade ago. It is ok to admit you have a problem and to reach out for help. People understand. Attorneys understand. Judges understand. The key is to address the issue with a qualified professional. Start with your physician who can refer you for mental health treatment if warranted. Take good care of yourself so you can take good care of your family. And remember, you are not alone.
